Principal's Message
Greetings Panther Family,
It gives me great joy to represent you as the principal of Southside High School. As many of you know, I am a 2003 graduate of our esteemed school, thus I truly have a genuine and vested interest in the turn-around of our school and community. Upon leaving Selma after high school, I continued my extensive educational training at THE Alabama State University, Kaplan University, Arkansas State University, and Auburn University at Montgomery. I consider my preparation for the world of education as diverse, demanding, and driven. I was able to work and learn with many people from various backgrounds, and work through assignments that were aligned with the urgent needs of education.
Throughout my graduate school training, I served as a Physical Education teacher, Special Education teacher, Varsity Basketball Coach, Assistant Football Coach, and Athletic Director at Southside High School for many years. I ventured into school leadership as I spread my wings and worked as Assistant Principal at McAdory High School in McCalla, AL (Jefferson County). These roles have led to my greatest and most rewarding task yet as Principal of my high school alma mater: Southside High School.
In my role as the leader of the school I will work to improve the academic and social, emotional curriculum of the school, collaborate with the staff to help facilitate professional learning and school improvement initiatives, and coordinate building operations and daily routines. I am committed to improving Southside and providing the type of learning environment where all students are successful.
As principal, I am excited to provide the leadership necessary to successfully transition to a new era at Southside, where "The Panther Way is the ONLY Way!". I am looking forward to applying my previous work and research in problem-based learning, cross-curricular instruction, and critical pedagogy to meet the needs of the students at Southside.Additionally, I look forward to providing innovative solutions to the challenges our students face in seeking to be competitive in a technology-driven twenty-first century economy.
As a personal note, I have been married to my wonderful and supportive wife, Rosalyn, for four years. She is also an educator. Together, we have an intelligent, beautiful, spunky, sassy, and sweet 2-year old daughter, Reaghan.
Here's to a successful school year...GO PANTHERS!!!
